Its different..
That may sound cliched, but indeed this movie is slightly different from your usual run of the mill stuff..for starters you have Priyadarshan whos carved a niche with his comic films, attempting something hes never done, taking a leaf out of ram gopal vermas thriller/horror genre..
A remake of 1984 malayalam hit, Bhoolbhulaiya has everything that you would ask for in a thriller. Storys about Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan coming back to India to set up their home in their ancestral haveli. Only thing the entire village is of the beleif that the Haveli is haunted. The film then takes us through a sequence of bizarre events which start occuring once the couple moves in.
To uncover the truth behind the incidents shiney calls his friend Akshay Kumar who is a phychiatrist. Akshay then goes about his job to find the actual reason and who is behind all this.
The premise is quite interesting in the sense that there are very few films being made on the supernatural subject. The pace of the film is alright with some great build up to the chain of events.. It is eerie at times, and does have its frightfull moments. Although the length of the film could have been taken care off.
Of the cast Shiney has done an okay job, though hes gone overboard in some scenes. Vidya as usual is dependable. Watch out the penultimate scene of the film. Shes brilliant. And last but not the least. Akshay Kumar is such a releif. He is simply superb, just effortlessly going through his scenes with generous dose of humor.
Full marks to Priyadarshan for remaking this and letting us know that he not only excels in comedy, he can do a fab job with this genre as well.
In short paisa wasool..
