Review - Jab We Met

Jab we liked..

After a string of duds Shahid and Kareena must have wondered what would it take for them to succeed as a pair on the silver screen. Well it took them almost half a dozen films to get their chemistry absoultely spot on. Executed wonderfully by a one film old director Imtiaz Ali with chart busting numbers at the helm, if you ever asked for a breezy entertainer this was it.

Superbly aided by the lead pair, the film is about the journey of sprighty n bubbly kareena whos sole aim in life is to reach to her boyfriend so that she could get married to him, on the way she bumps into a heartbroken, recently dumped by the love of his life Shahid and how their paths cross each other and how they help each other, in the process falling for each other.

The film has all what it takes, a fresh take at romance, a light and breezy entertainer. Some portions of the film remind you of DDLJ. Must confess ive never been a great fan of Kareena, but shes taken everybody by surprise. Shes come up with an ace performance without hamming or going over the top which has been her undoing in all the films shes done till date.

Shahid is first rate, as sedate and rightfully restrained as he can be. He has delivered his best performance as well. Watch out for the scenes in the beginning, where he has emoted mostly through his eyes. You can empathise with him. He is absolutely brilliant.

Its always a pleasure to watch Pawan Malhotra, its a pity he doesnt do many films.

Special credit should be given to Pritam for a fantastic score.. What music!!!most of which are already topping the charts.

Last but not the least kudos to Imtiaz Ali for directing a simple, no nonsense, over the top drama which one gets to see in majority of the love stories.

Jab We Met is a must watch..You will definitely like it..

Bhoolbhulaiya

Its different..

That may sound cliched, but indeed this movie is slightly different from your usual run of the mill stuff..for starters you have Priyadarshan whos carved a niche with his comic films, attempting something hes never done, taking a leaf out of ram gopal vermas thriller/horror genre..

A remake of 1984 malayalam hit, Bhoolbhulaiya has everything that you would ask for in a thriller. Storys about Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan coming back to India to set up their home in their ancestral haveli. Only thing the entire village is of the beleif that the Haveli is haunted. The film then takes us through a sequence of bizarre events which start occuring once the couple moves in.

To uncover the truth behind the incidents shiney calls his friend Akshay Kumar who is a phychiatrist. Akshay then goes about his job to find the actual reason and who is behind all this.

The premise is quite interesting in the sense that there are very few films being made on the supernatural subject. The pace of the film is alright with some great build up to the chain of events.. It is eerie at times, and does have its frightfull moments. Although the length of the film could have been taken care off.

Of the cast Shiney has done an okay job, though hes gone overboard in some scenes. Vidya as usual is dependable. Watch out the penultimate scene of the film. Shes brilliant. And last but not the least. Akshay Kumar is such a releif. He is simply superb, just effortlessly going through his scenes with generous dose of humor.

Full marks to Priyadarshan for remaking this and letting us know that he not only excels in comedy, he can do a fab job with this genre as well.

In short paisa wasool..

Review : Johnny Gaddar

A Taut Thriller

Riveting..if one was to describe this movie in one word. After ages one has got to see a thriller so fascinating. Its not exactly a whodunnit as the identity of the killer is known from frame one, so in that sense you could term it a howdunnit..

Its a simple story of a heist planned by a bunch of masterminds that goes awry. Spearheaded by Dharmendra, the gang is out to make quick bucks, but one member of the gang has other ideas.
The movie borrowes its basic premise from yesteryears Amitabh starrer Parwana.

Neil Mukesh, grandson of legendary singer Mukesh has made a smashing debut as the sauve killer. Never has a star son been as under hyped as Neil Mukesh has, maybe that might have worked in his favor as he is not bound by any image. Here is an actor that we are going to see a lot in the years to come..hes staying here all right. Vinay Pathak and Zakir Hussain are as effortless as ever.Dharmendra is in top form as well, though one wished he was given less lines in english to speak. Ashwini Kalsekar is a complete natural. Watch out for the scene where her husband dies. Rimi Sen does precious little.

Sriram Raghvan had done a decent job with his debut film Ek Hasina Thi, and has gone few notches higher with Johnny Gaddar. He is a welcome addition to bollywood which is otherwise infested with the bhansalis n chopras of the world. Hes kept a good pace throughout the film and the narrative is quite smooth. There are no theatrics, just edge of the seat thriller. He keeps you glued to the seat.

Kudos for a refreshing change like this.

Review - Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag

(Aag)ony...

If ever there was a disaster this was it..it makes the sinking titanic and the falling twin towers as just mere happenings. It is right up there with similar ones like Yaadein and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, or maybe im being a lil cruel to the movies i just mentioned..This is the epitome of disasters. When u have Viru as Hirooo u can just imagine wher its heading to.

Everything seems to be so tacky right from the sets, sound, editing, background score just verything and last but not the least direction..hey did i say direction what direction..

Nisha Kothari a distant cousin of Govinda mouthing "mai tum jaise logo ko A-n-tartain nahi karti.." Ajay Devgan looks like a ragpicker with that bandana..just not happenin..sushmita sen appears to have dandruff problem as she has that duppata on throughout the film..amitabh kills more of his men then of his enemies..mohanlal,suchitra krishnamoorthy,chakravarty..at one point i thought i was watching Sun TV...

Please treat this post as a public apology from me as there was a complete error of judgement by giving it such high ratings, for i was like others completely mislead by the enormous hype and past work of Mr Verma. Can u imagine he was the same guy who made such kickass movies like Shiva, Rangeela n Satya.

R.G.V should henceforth be nicknamed R.I.P.
